The Big Chill event, run by the Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club Inc and scheduled for 5th-6th July 2025 at Carnell Raceway, has been cancelled at the last minute due to circumstances beyond the club’s control.
Club secretary Israel Suarez explains what went wrong, and the repercussions…
“An incident occurred at a recent meeting held by the Short Circuit Motor Sport Association (SCMSA) at Carnell Raceway which put the Big Chill event in jeopardy.
“The club, in particular our President Peter Searle, worked overtime, liaising with not only the Car Club but also making contact with the Southern Downs Regional Council with the intention of shoring up our Big Chill. The last thing we wanted was for our famous Big Chill to be cancelled.
“It is with great disappointment that the QEMSC Executive committee wish to inform all QEMSC members that Carnell Raceway is officially closed until at least the end of July, wherein the Car Club and the Southern Downs Council, as we understand it will continue with their discussions surrounding the re-opening of Carnell or otherwise.
“We would like to emphasise the track closure together with the issues surrounding the incident and the lease have been completely out of the control of the QEMSC committee and we are extremely disappointed in this outcome.
“The Committee did attempt to reschedule an event to take place at another track, but unfortunately, due to limited availability of officials and track availability, we were unable to secure an alternative venue in or around these dates.
“The entire QEMSC committee are first and foremost, historic racers and in the coming weeks/months, rest assured we will be putting our heads together to get us back on the track. Like the great Phoenix rising, QEMSC will have bigger and better events lined up for 2026 so watch this space.”
The QEMSC’s next big meeting is the Queensland Historic Road Racing Titles at Morgan Park from 9th-11th September 2025.
