Pietro Ghersi rounds Governor’s Bridge in the 1926 Lightweight TT. The Italian had led the early laps and looked a likely winner, but needed a fuel stop prior to the final lap which dropped him to second behind Paddy Johnson’s Cotton. Then Ghersi was sensationally disqualified for using a different spark plug to what was specified on the entry form. His only consolation was a new lap record at 63.12 mph. Pic: Elwyn Roberts
